I am outraged to see that the Department of Haute-Marne is going to take a vote to decide whether to spend 450,000 euros of public money to support hunting through a “Hunting Plan” over the period 2024 -2026. The argument is to be able to guarantee the security of the French in the Haut-Marne territory. So the department is going to spend 450,000 euros so that “leisure” can be done without creating an accident? We walk on our heads. How far are we prepared to go to protect this practice?
This money, our money, could used for useful projects for everyone: the environment, education, health… And yet, it is injected into an activity which should no longer exist in 2024.
“A check for 130 € will be issued for each young people aged 16 to 25 or new permit holder, so that they can have safety equipment purchased in a Haut-Marne store (vest, fluorescent orange jacket, etc.).” can we read on a site dedicated to hunting. Here's how to encourage 16-year-olds to do something like this.
This is a practice that goes against animal protection. How can we justify that our taxes go into such “activity” which sometimes causes accidents and which involves killing animals?
Promoting hunting in 2024, while citizens are waiting for initiatives in favor of animal protection, is an insult to the values of respect for living things.
At a time when animal protection should be at the heart of our concerns, it is insane to invest such a sum to promote hunting, when this public money could finance so many other much more useful projects. In addition, what example are we giving to young people by promoting a practice that kills animals?
This project was to be voted on and validated at the end of October. If agreement has been given, I therefore demand that the Department of Haute-Marne immediately stops funding hunting!
I want that this money is redirected towards projects that protect animals and support essential causes for society: education, health, solidarity… It is time to invest in positive initiatives, which meet the real needs of all!
