After having been the scene of several exhibition matches this season, notably during the “Six Kings Slam” bringing together the greatest players on the planet such as Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, Saudi Arabia will host the end of the WTA Masters of the year and from 2024 to 2026. For three editions, the city of Riyadh will see the eight best players of the season compete. This year, the competition will take place from November 2 to 9.
Who are the eight players involved?
Eight big names in Tennis will try to win one last trophy to end the season in the best possible way, divided into two groups of four.
The draw placed the Polish Iga Swiatek, dislodged from her throne as world number 1 by Aryna Sabalenka last October, in the group of the Americans Coco Gauff (3rd) and Jessica Pegula (6th), and the Czech Barbora Krejcikova ( 13th). For her part, the Belarusian will face the Italian Jasmine Paolini (4th), the Kazakh Elena Rybakina (5th) and the Chinese Qinwen Zheng (7th), recent Olympic champion in Paris.
For two of them, this competition also has a completely different flavor. To keep her number 1 rank in the WTA, Aryna Sabalenka must win her three matches in the group stage or reach the final. Iga Swiatek no longer has a choice. She must win this edition of the Masters.
How much will the winner of the Masters earn?
If the exorbitant prices had already attracted attention during the “Six Kings Slam”, this time, it is the same for the WTA Masters. The winner of the tournament will leave Riyadh with the biggest jackpot in the history of the Masters: between 4.46 and 5.16 million dollars depending on her career. The previous record was held by Australian Ashleigh Barty, paid $4.42 million for her victory in Shenzhen, China in 2019.
