Senegal: Lamine Sané – “I’m not ready for the Lions” [Exclu]

Retired since 2020, former Senegalese international Lamine Sané has started his career change. At 37, the former Bordeaux defender recently joined the staff of the Lion Cubs U17 who are playing their qualification for the CAN in the category this Friday against Guinea Bissau in the semi-finals of the UFOA A tournament (West Africa Zone A). ) at 3 p.m. GMT. The rock spoke exclusively to Afrik-Foot.com.

Lamine Sané, what becomes of you?

First, I completed my coaching training. I have the UEFA A diploma. I have been in the industry for three years. Currently, I am at Senegal to strengthen the staff of Pape Faye, the coach of the Senegal U17 national team. I’m coming to lend a hand.

I am also here to learn, as you know, training in Europe has nothing to do with that in Africa. For now, things are going well. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Senegalese football federation which allowed me to do this internship.

Do you hope to qualify for the African Cup of Nations in this category?

The goal is to qualify for the African Cup this Friday, we will meet the Guinea-Bissau. We have been here for two months, we want to qualify for CAN 2025 in the category.

“Lions A, it’s very early for me”

Senegal is looking for a coach since the non-renewal of Aliou Cissé. Who do you think has the best profile to lead the Lions?

(Laughs) I’ve been asked this question before. I can’t name the best profile, to be honest I don’t know. All I know on the other hand, we will have to give time to the future coach because it is not easy to succeed Aliou Cissé who spent 9 years at the head of this team with all the victories that we had.

Would you be ready to help the future coach if he calls on you?

I will be very honest, I have a lot of things to learn in my new job. It’s very early for me. I believe that we should not skip steps. I don’t think I’m ready for the Lions. My heart is in it, it’s true, but I’m not ready for the Lions.

What is your greatest memory with the Lions of Senegal?

It was during the 2012 CAN qualifiers. At the time, only one team was qualified per group. We were in the same group as the Cameroon. This match against the Indomitable Lions that we won 1 goal to 0 was just magnificent.

Demba Ba’s goal in stoppage time?

Effectively ! It was incredible. It was at the Stade Senghor.

How did you experience it from the inside?

To be honest with you, I don’t remember anything. I saw the stadium shaking like never before. I’ve never experienced that in my entire career. I’m still talking about it. These people have always been magnificent.
