The project is not new (a first deliberation was taken in the municipal council on February 15, 2018, under the mandate of Christophe Saint-Pierre) but, now, the urban transformation of the Sablons islet is well underway. The deconstruction work, launched in mid-March, has just been completed, a month and a half ahead of the initial schedule. The very degraded building has given way… to a great void. Ultimately, by the end of 2025, in addition to a green space of 1,300 m2, new housing is planned (with 25% social rental). A real estate project entrusted to Polygone SA

“Increase freshness during heatwaves”

This Thursday evening, in the municipal council, the provisional financing plan for the creation of this famous green public square was voted on. With some promises on a “green” effect: “vegetated soils and permeable coverings increase water retention in soils, reduce runoff and also provide better respiration of the subsoil by limiting heat storage on the surface. The choice of materials will help increase freshness during heat waves.”

To note that “The project limits vehicle traffic and offers only two temporary parking spaces landscaped with permeable surfacing.”

The City anticipates that “This project offers a gain of approximately 45% of permeable surface”. An overall budget (demolition and development work on the green area) estimated at €1.60 million with various contributions from financiers including Europe (€604,000), the Region (€100,000), the Department (€120,000). €), the Green Fund (€300,000). The City, for its part, supplements to the tune of €336,000 in self-financing.

Two consultation meetings with local residents are planned for Tuesday July 2 and Wednesday July 3 from 6 p.m.
