The worker died on a construction site in Côtes-d'Armor: two companies found guilty of manslaughter

The manslaughter, initially, was aggravated due to a breach of a safety obligation. It was reclassified by the Saint-Brieuc criminal court as “simple” manslaughter. It was an accident which, in 2019, cost the life of a carpenter who was working on the construction site of a farm in Merléac. Three companies were implicated and two were condemned, this Thursday, November 21, 2024: the agricultural operation where the worker fell and the Breton agricultural cooperative which supported the manager of the latter in his work project.

€23,000 for the civil party

The first was sentenced to a suspended fine of €10,000 and the second to a fine of €30,000. The individuals representing these two companies were acquitted and the farm was also condemned for not having designated a safety coordinator on its site, a mandatory step during such work. For these facts, the EARL also received a suspended fine of €1,000. The civil party will receive, for the damage suffered, the total sum of €23,000.
