As you probably know by now, the Canadian will have choices to make this summer regarding his roster. There are 9 NHL caliber defensemen in the organization and that’s not counting Lane Hutson, David Reinbacher And Logan Mailloux who will be knocking on the door this fall.

It is quite possible that Kent Hughes uses his depth on defense to make a trade. Rumors speak of going for a young top-6 player, but to do so you will have to give something good in return. A 1st round pick (that of the Jets) + a young defender?

We will have to see what the GM of the Canadian will do, but one thing is certain, one of the players targeted in a possible transaction the young Jordan Harris.

Harris is only 23 years old, he doesn’t cost much ($1.4 million) and he has proven himself to be an NHL defenseman. Without having the potential of a Cale Makarhe is a safe bet.

What does the Harris family think of these rumors?

Stu Cowan mentions that he spoke with the father of Jordan Harris during the last weekend regarding the trade rumors circulating about his son and here is what he had to say:

I know it’s part of the job. I understand. Sometimes it’s a compliment if someone else wants what he brings to a team. Being able to come here, being accessible by car. With the community we met, we would like him to stay (in Montreal). From my point of view, it’s a little disappointing to think that he might leave the team. But we both understand that in hockey there is a small window. He is so affable, he is such a good boy that we will do it again elsewhere. There’s no problem with him ending up somewhere else.
