“It’s historic”: the Sarlat rugby club in Dordogne wins promotion to Federal 1

All of Périgord Noir was in Goumondie this Sunday afternoon to support the CAS. The Sarladais rugby players scored a great victory (39-13) against the Aveyronnais of Millau, in the round of 16 second leg of the Fédérale 2 championship. One year after the coronation of French Fédérale 3 champion, and the rise, Sarlat wins a second consecutive promotion.

Upgrade to Federal 1

Sarlat remained on a narrow defeat in the first leg (28-25). This Sunday afternoon, the Sarladais were breathtaking, by scoring five tries. The crowd was white hot, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen so many people at the stadium.

At the final bell, the supporters let their joy explode. “It’s great. These are little ones who were at rugby school, I was with them to prepare them the jerseys, the snacks… They were crying on the road because they had never slept all alone! And there they find themselves in Federal 1, I could die tomorrow”smiled Polo, very moved.

“We’re going to have to get organized.”

“It’s historic! Two climbs in two years, it’s exceptional. We aimed to maintain it at the start of the season, now it’s just happiness and we’re going to try to go as far as possible”explodes the hooker Sylvain.

“We’re going to have to get organized. It’s something that’s not simple, before validating anything, I want to of course consult the local elected officials and especially the partners. We took over the club there It was in poor condition a short time ago. We almost got it back on its feet, we shouldn’t do anything.”, says CAS president Adrien Doursat. While waiting for him to present his plan, the Sarladais rugby players will play their quarter-finaland try to win the title of champion of Fédérale 2.
