Morocco has undergone several transformations that make the development of the care economy an absolute priority in the process of strengthening social protection policies and consolidating the foundations of national economic development, said Tuesday in Salé, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah. Speaking at the opening of the 1st International Conference on the Care Economy and Social Protection, which is held under the theme “Care economy and social protection: Pillar of women’s empowerment, job creation and family well-being”Ms. Fettah estimated that the care economy can be a solution for national economic development, in response to Morocco’s choice to accelerate the social state, the demographic transition marked by the aging of the population, and the the emergence of new forms of work.

Thus, the minister reviewed the main social projects undertaken by Morocco and the measures associated with them, as well as the results obtained over the years by the government, in partnership with civil society, particularly in the areas of child protection, health, social assistance and elderly care.

Several countries have recorded growth in the care economy, mainly associated with the solidarity economy, Ms. Fettah highlighted. In this sense, she highlighted Morocco’s potential to create innovative models to achieve the objectives of the New Development Model in connection with the care economy.
