Genève-Servette is preparing to return to its audience. After 7 months without a single home match, the Grenat host Rapperswil at Les Vernets on Friday. Some new features will be visible to the public even if the bulk of the work will only be noticed by the most attentive.

It was on March 7, Genève-Servette played its last home match of the 2023-2024 season, a 3-2 defeat against HC Bienne. 225 days later, GSHC hosts Rapperswil for the first match at Les Vernets of the season. After 8 championship matches on the road, to which are added the 6 Champions Hockey League contested in Visp, Neuchâtel and abroad, the return is awaited. Above all, the Garnets were able to train for the first time on Thursday on indoor ice.

Since the resumption in August, the Genevans have been training on the outdoor ice at Les Vernets. They therefore had access to their locker room and their routine was only impacted with a 200-meter walk to reach the training location. But this return to normal can only do good.

Some visible new features

The work carried out from April to October mainly impacted the backstage of Les Vernets, so the public will not see any big differences apart from a new videotron. But this work was mainly carried out to meet the standards of the National League.

The two new entrances for players directly impact the GSHC ticket office since the 18 best VIP seats in the club (those located right next to the players’ entrance). A disappearance which will bring a financial loss for the club.

Four matches in 9 days

The Garnets will have the opportunity to enjoy their reunion with the public. Due to their qualification for the round of 16 of the Champions Hockey League, several matches were moved to the October holiday week. So the Genevans will play 4 times in 9 days at Les Vernets. It will therefore be necessary to succeed in resting the organisms.
