On May 25, 2024, around 10 p.m., OL scored a goal in the Coupe de France final against Saint-Germain at the Stade de France. 400km away, supporters are exulting in a Groupama Stadium transformed into a fan zone for the occasion.

But in the front row of the crowd gathered in front of the giant screen, Anissa, a supporter, is experiencing a nightmare. In images filmed by the club, we see her taking numerous elbows from a man on the left. The video made the rounds on social networks and the young woman filed a complaint a few days later.

We learned this Friday, October 18 that a suspect identified in this case should be tried next December. The young woman confirms to us that she has received a summons for a hearing. “I hope justice will do its job“, she tells us.

For the young woman, it was a racist attack. A few days after the events, she testified to France 3 that the same individual had uttered racist insults to her before hitting her. According to her, another person from her attacker’s group tried to tear off the Islamic veil worn by her friend present with her.

The question of the racist nature of the attack will be decided during the trial. According to the young woman, her summons indicates that the suspect is summoned for acts of racist violence resulting in an ITT of less than 8 days.

Olympique Lyonnais had, at the time, immediately supported the young woman in her efforts. “OL will support all victims in their complaint by becoming a civil party alongside them. This unacceptable behavior has no place at Olympique Lyonnais” the club reacted after the events.

On the sidelines of a press conference on racism and football organized by the city of Lyon on Wednesday October 16, 2024, Laurent Prud’homme, the general director of OL, reaffirmed the club’s zero tolerance policy towards people who do not respect the law within their stadium.

He also calls on public authorities to address the problem of violence in stadiums, regretting that clubs are alone in facing these problems. “The only measure we have is to issue commercial stadium bans ranging from 1 to 18 months. We cannot carry out identity checks at the entrance to the stadium. Nothing prevents someone with a ban, thanks to the identity of their neighbor, from coming“, he concluded.
