Wimbledon announces the end of the employment of linesmen in 2025 to make way for video refereeing

The ATP has already announced that the entire circuit plans to do without line judges and prefer video refereeing for the 2025 season. For the Grand Slam tournaments, the situation is different since the latter do not depend on the ATP . The decision is therefore specific to each tournament. The US Open and the Australian Open had already announced the use of video refereeing.

Wimbledon also announced this Wednesday that it would take the same decision from the 2025 edition. This change, which concerns the main tournament but also the qualifications, should affect a group of approximately 300 referees. Another implication of this decision is that players will no longer need the Hawk Eye challenge since the technology they have previously relied on will be used continuously.
