NFL: Texans defeat Bills 23-20 thanks to Ka’imi Fairbairn’s game-winning kick

A 59-yard field goal from Ka’imi Fairbairn on the very last play of the game allowed the Houston Texans to secure a 23-20 victory over the Buffalo Bills.

Fairbairn’s game-winning kick stopped the momentum of the Bills, who trailed for most of the game before rallying in the second half on James Cook’s five-yard touchdown run. and a 49-yard touchdown pass from Josh Allen to Keon Coleman in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, kicker Tyler Bass’ 33-yard field goal tied the score at 20-20.

Fairbairn also had field goals of 50 and 47 yards.

The Texans pulled away from a field goal attempt after quarterback CJ Stroud got rid of the ball in his protective pocket. However, the Bills had to clear the ball after three incomplete passes. A five-yard run by Dare Ogunbowale set up Fairbairn’s game-winning field goal.

Already without the services of running back Joe Mixon, the Texans struggled on offense when receiver Nico Collins left the game with a hamstring injury.

“Overall, it’s my fault,” Bills head coach Sean McDermott said. We have to do a better job and I have to do better in this situation. »

A five-yard run by Dare Ogunbowale set up Fairbairn’s game-winning field goal.

“It wasn’t very pretty, but it’s how it ends that counts. I’m proud of the way our guys finished the game,” said Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans.

The Texans are now 4-1 while the Bills suffer a second loss in five games. The Texans led 20-3 at one point in the game.

In his first game against his former team, Stefon Diggs totaled gains of 82 yards while catching six passes. His longest gain was 18 yards.

When the dust settled, Diggs finally admitted how important this match was to him.

“I’m not going to sit here and act like everything is normal. It meant a lot to me and it was reassuring to see that the guys around me knew it was important,” Diggs said. I try to stay calm and approach each week the same way, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t mean a lot to me. »

The Bills quarterback was shaken in the fourth quarter, but he remained in the game. Allen had a rough afternoon completing only nine of his 30 pass attempts for 131 yards. He nevertheless contributed on the ground with runs totaling 54 yards.

“We are a little less efficient in the way we execute plays compared to the first three games,” analyzed Sean McDermott.

Allen’s 231st career touchdown pass tied Patrick Mahomes for the most by a player in his first seven seasons.

Texans quarterback CJ Stroud, for his part, completed 28 of his 38 passes for gains of 331 yards. He was also the victim of an interception.

Stroud completed a 67-yard touchdown pass to Nico Collins, giving his team a momentary 14-3 lead.

In the first quarter, Cam Akers scored a major on a 15-yard run.

Jayden Daniels makes football history

Jayden Daniels rallied from an early interception to complete the longest touchdown pass of his young career and ran for 82 yards to give the Washington Commanders a win unequivocally 34-13 against the Cleveland Browns.

Washington earned its fourth straight win and is 4-1 for the first time since 2008. The Browns lost a third straight game and their record is 1-4.

Daniels also became the first in NFL history to record 1,000 passing and 250 rushing yards in his first five career games.

Daniels, Brian Robinson Jr., Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols were dominant on the ground, combined for 211 yards on 31 carries.

Robinson scored two touchdowns and McNichols added one in a game so one-sided that spectators were waving around the stadium with four minutes left in the third quarter.

The Commanders’ defense had a lot to do with the fans’ reaction. She caused a fumble from quarterback Deshaun Watson in addition to tackling him seven times behind his line of engagement. The Commanders only gave up 212 yards to the Browns.

Watson finished the game with 15 completions on 28 attempts for 125 yards and a late touchdown to Jordan Atkins. He’s still looking for his first game with at least 200 passing yards this season.

Daniels completed his work day with 14 successful passes in 25 attempts and gains of 238 yards. He threw passes of 66 yards to Terry McLaurin and 41 yards for a touchdown to Dyami Brown.

Williams takes advantage of poor Panthers defense

Caleb Williams and DJ Moore played rain and shine to help the Chicago Bears crush the Carolina Panthers 36-10.

Williams threw two touchdown passes and for 304 yards. Moore, who was playing against his former team, caught both of Williams’ successful passes and finished the game with 105 receiving yards.

The Bears (3-2) signed a second victory in a row after suffering two losses in a row. They were carried by the two key pieces acquired in a major trade with the Panthers in 2023.

The Chicago team also got a great performance from D’Andre Swift. He had 120 yards from the line of scrimmage and scored a touchdown.

Williams tore apart one of the worst defenses in the NFL. The first overall pick in the last NFL draft completed 20 of 29 passes and posted a career-best 126.2 efficiency rating.

Williams could have suited up for the Panthers if they hadn’t traded their 2024 first-round pick to the Bears. The latter also got their hands on Moore and the ninth overall pick in 2023.

Moore, who caught five balls in a win over the Panthers last year, had a 34-yard touchdown in the first quarter and another 30-yarder before the end of the first half.

Dolphins win comedy of errors

Alec Ingold scored the game-winning touchdown on a three-yard run with four minutes remaining and Jason Sanders kicked three field goals to compensate for three missed field goals by the Dolphins’ special teams, who beat the New England Patriots 15- 10.

In a game between two of the worst teams in the NFL that was riddled with penalties, missed punts and time management errors, each team managed just one touchdown.

The Dolphins (2-3) took the lead when Ingold dove into the end zone on his only carry of the game.

The Patriots (1-4) had two more chances to take the lead, but the first ended after a review overturned a reception that was ruled a touchdown on the field, and the second ended ended at the Dolphins’ 11 when Jacoby Brissett connected with Hunter Henry for 25 yards with four seconds left, but with no chance to stop the clock.

In his second start as Tua Tagovailoa’s backup, Tyler Huntley completed 18 of 31 passes for 194 yards and an interception.

Tyreek Hill caught six passes for 69 yards, Jaylen Wright ran for 86 and Raheem Mostert added 80 on the ground for the Dolphins.

Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson rushed 12 times for 89 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter, which was set up by Christian Gonzalez’s interception.

Brissett completed 18 of 34 passes for 160 yards.
