Ricky Gervais has never been afraid of controversy, and it even seems that it works out quite well for him. The British comedian recently thanked everyone who criticized his show Armageddonavailable on Netflix since last Christmas, it was so successful!

“Thank you to everyone who complained about this trailer and even signed a petition to have it removed Armageddon from Netflix,” he wrote on X. “You helped the show win a Golden Globe and become the most watched stand-up show in the world. »

No bad publicity

Ricky Gervais’ show was in fact strongly criticized upon its release, in particular by a charity association which criticized him for using a term deemed discriminatory against people with disabilities. An online petition also condemned some of the comedian’s jokes about sick children.

Despite these controversies, or perhaps because of them, Armageddon won the Golden Globe for best stand-up comedy performance on television, beating strong competitors like Chris Rock and Trevor Noah.

Ricky Gervais, who is not his first controversy, takes these criticisms philosophically. According to him, the majority of people who complained were “not really offended” by his jokes. Once is not customary, Ricky Gervais proves that there is no such thing as bad publicity, at least as long as we have good news!
