Mugron confirms and asserts itself in Laruns

Mugron did not want to “do any calculations” before his return to Laruns this Sunday. It is clear that the USM negotiated its 32nd final perfectly: the victory of six points in the first leg (33-27) was followed by a victory of four points in the return, this Sunday (21-25). History of confirming its control over this double confrontation against the regular season leader of pool 11, and validating its qualification in 16th. The Landais will face the Auvergnats of RC Saint-Cernin, on May 19 (in Cantal) and 26 (return to Hillette), for a place in Federal 2.

To play the 16th, Laruns had to win by 7 points. But with an average touch, a blatant lack of density compared to the USM and an indiscipline greater than his opponent of the day, it was too much to hope to bite his opponent, even if the appetite was there. “Mugron is a really good team, it’s a shame because there was still room. We are certainly eliminated, but we had the right strategy,” assures Béarn coach Christian Tisnérat, who also announced his departure from the club.

Jamme’s feat

His team, however, started this meeting well by setting the pace. Miro opened the scoring from the 1st, but Mugron would quickly get into the swing of things thanks to a personal exploit from his winger Jamme, who reviewed the Ossaloise defense from 40 meters (3-7, 9th). Mugron would then gorge itself on the Laruns fouls, and Senaux, the Mugron scorer (author of a 7/8 against the poles), passed three penalties before the break.

Laruns would react and score a try by his scrum half and conductor Miro, who allowed his team to still believe in it at half-time. And everyone believed in it even more when B. Arros concluded a very nice move at the foot of the posts (18-16, 45th). Annoyed, the Landes tractor began to change gear and push the Ossalois to make mistakes three times, always for ground faults. Laruns had chances at the very end of the match, but Mugron firmly held on to his success and a deserved qualification.
