The safety car was out this Sunday, at the Miami Grand Prix in Formula 1, after the incident between Logan Sargeant and Kevin Magnussen. Except that the vehicle was poorly positioned, allowing Lando Norris to take the lead in the race and go on to score the first victory of his F1 career.

Everyone already thought victory had been achieved for Red Bull and Max Verstappen, who started in pole position for the Miami Grand Prix this Sunday. But an imbroglio came to reshuffle the cards. While Lando Norris had just taken the lead of the race after pit stops, an incident with Kevin Magnussen sent Logan Sargeant into the background. Result: retirement for the American and exit from the safety car.

Except that this famous safety car… was poorly positioned. And while Lando Norris and McLaren took advantage of the yellow flag for a pit stop, Max Verstappen found himself stuck behind the safety vehicle. Meanwhile, Norris could easily take the lead in the race, perhaps surprised not to have the safety car in front of him.

First F1 victory for Norris

This allowed Lando Norris to consolidate his leadership status ahead of the three-time reigning world champion. And while the Dutchman seemed very close on a post-safety car race restart, the Briton only increased his lead behind, to win in Miami with more than seven seconds ahead: his first victory in Formula 1, after eight second places.
