“As I speak to you, the Olympic Games, I don’t think about it much”: the captain of the French team, Kylian Mbappé admitted on Sunday that the Olympic Games were not his “current affairs”, adding that his position had “not changed” on the subject.
“My position has not changed. But the truth, too, is that it is not my news. My news is Paris Saint-Germain. As I speak to you, the Olympics , I don’t think about it much but my official position vis-à-vis the Olympics has not changed”, declared Mbappé in front of some media including AFP, on the sidelines of an event of his association “Inspired By KM ” with 2,000 children on the Champs-Elysées in Paris.
Expected to join Real Madrid next season, the captain of the Blues has made known on several occasions his desire to play in the Paris Games (July 26-August 11). But the Olympic tournament is not part of the Fifa dates, the clubs are not obliged to release their players. Real Madrid informed several federations in March, including the French Football Federation (FFF), that it would not release its players for the Paris Olympics.
“We are eagerly awaited at the Euro and we really want to do something big”
In an interview with La Tribune on Sunday, Emmanuel Macron said that Wilfrid Mbappé, the star’s father, had told him that Kylian “wanted to do them”. “I really hope that all European clubs will give this freedom to their players.
