When Paulo Dybala helps his wife… to preserve corpses

-

Despite not being selected for Argentina’s Copa America, Paulo Dybala (30) still had a sweet summer. The AS Roma attacking midfielder married Oriana Sabatini (28) in July in Buenos Aires after six years together. A union long enough to discover the singer’s great passion: thanatopraxy, the technique of temporarily preserving corpses. A practice that the player was able to observe up close during some of his wife’s travels.

“He accompanied me”

In her podcast “Adónde vamos cuando soñamos” (Where do we go when we dream), Oriana Sabatini explains that she has already been accompanied by the 2022 world champion. “One night, Daniel, the owner of a funeral home, called me and said: ‘Ori, a body is arriving in half an hour, can you come?’ Of course, I said yes, it was 10 p.m., I had already had dinner, I had nothing else to do. There was a match between Brazil and I don’t know who, Paulo was there with my father to watch the match. I wanted to do something useful and I said I would go to the funeral home.”

“When I told him at dinner, everyone said, ‘Oh no, that’s too bad, you’re leaving…'” she continues. “I asked if anyone wanted to come with me and then everyone was interested, because obviously everyone loves gossip, it creates curiosity. Finally, Paulo came with me and said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll stay there at the funeral home and walk around’ and he came with me.”

Oriana Sabatini had already confided that she had studied thanatopraxy a few months ago. “Ever since I was little, death has attracted my attention,” she explained on the Argentine reality TV show LAM. “I have always been very curious. At the idea of living abroad, I had asked myself what I would do with my life and this possibility of studying thanatopraxy arose. I discovered this career that can be done in a short time and that is very beautiful. Unlike the work we do, this one is very anonymous. It is a service. Sometimes you don’t see your family and the person you do it to doesn’t thank you.”
