Richard Carapaz has announced that he will not participate in the road race of the World Championships, next Sunday in Zurich. The Ecuadorian made this decision following a family emergency.
The Tokyo 2021 Olympic champion said on his social networks that he had to go to Ecuador to be at the bedside of his daughter, who underwent emergency surgery. The operation went well but her health condition requires monitoring, he said.
Carapaz, 31, explained that he has not been able to train normally in recent days. He believes that his physical and mental condition is incompatible with participating in the World Championships.
