CFL: Lwal Uguak returns to the Alouettes after a stay in Tampa Bay

The Alouettes announced Wednesday that Canadian defensive lineman Lwal Uguak is back with the team. The 24-year-old will be at the team’s practice starting Wednesday.

Uguak (6’5”, 271 lbs.) signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last January after a season in the nest. In three preseason games, he collected two defensive tackles, a sack and a pass breakup.

In 2023, he was the team’s seventh overall pick in the CFL draft. The Edmonton, Alberta native played every game for the Alouettes that year, recording 16 defensive tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble.

In three playoff games, he was a real pest for his opponents, amassing 11 defensive tackles and three pass breakups, helping the team in the quest for the Grey Cup.

He played his first three seasons with the University of Connecticut Huskies and completed his college career with the TCU Horned Frogs in 2022.

“We are very happy to have Lwal back with us,” said Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia. “In his first year in 2023, he was progressing in every game at an incredible pace. He was a force for our defense in our successes and we are all excited to have him back on our team.”
