On Tuesday evening, Pär Zetterberg was invited to kick off the clash between Anderlecht and KRC Genk. But unfortunately for the Swede, the Mauves did not offer him a very nice show.

The RSCA icon was back at Lotto Park for the first time since his dismissal from the club in 2020. He was honoured to celebrate the 35th anniversary of his Anderlecht debut and his nomination for the Pro League Hall of Fame. He was also present for the launch of the Brussels club’s new slogan: “Noblesse oblige”.

Zetterberg very impressed by Genk

According to Zetterberg, it’s not really Anderlecht who are having a bad game, it’s rather Genk who were very good: “We have to admit that Genk have a great team, with a nice mix of experience and young talent,” he told Sudinfo. “This club is really working well. It’s impressive to see how well they recruit and how well they sell their talent.”

Anderlecht will have to hang on

To conclude, the Swede was quite honest, he said that he did not see things in a very positive light for Anderlecht: “I hope that the club will recover this season, but it will not be easy. The supporters expect results like last season, but the context is not the same. The absences of Vertonghen and Hazard are doing a lot of harm to the team. While waiting for their return, Anderlecht will have to manage as best it can.”
