Wissam Ben Yedder avoids pre-trial detention!

The long descent into hell continues for Wissam Ben Yedder. The 34-year-old striker is no longer talked about on the football pitch and he is known for his troubles off the pitch. For several months now, the former AS Monaco player has been involved in several extra-sporting cases, including sexual assaults. Last May, Ben Yedder was tried for rape, sexual assault and attempted rape of two young women aged 18 and 19. When confronted by the latter, he stuck to his position while his brother was also involved in this case. One case among many others since the French international is also said to have paid 1.6 million euros, under the advice of his former representatives, to calm down a woman who was going to file a complaint against him for another alleged rape in September 2022.

But that’s not all. These two cases have clearly not calmed the 34-year-old striker. At the beginning of September, he was taken into custody. He allegedly abused a young woman born in 2001 in the Alpes-Maritimes. In particular, he allegedly tried to abuse her in his car on numerous occasions before she managed to escape to join her group of friends. Intoxicated, he was caught by the police a few hours later after refusing to comply. Placed in custody, the former Téfécé player was sent to appear immediately and placed under strict judicial supervision pending his hearing, which was initially scheduled for October 15.

Ben Yedder avoids prison for now

But there you go, the prosecution had requested pre-trial detention and had appealed the court decision. The hearing was finally held this Tuesday and while Ben Yedder admitted to the traffic offences, and had his driving licence confiscated, he continues to deny any sexual assault. To avoid prison, the former Sevilla FC player and his lawyers have proposed an alcohol detoxification treatment rather than pre-trial detention. Ben Yedder has already started seeing a shrink and has also attended an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting while his lawyers have already approached the University Hospital for a 15-day alcohol treatment which requires strict confinement.

This Wednesday, the investigating chamber of the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal was to give its decision on this case and it decided to maintain the judicial supervision of Wissam Ben Yedder as it stands. He therefore avoids provisional detention and will appear free at his trial. Wissam Ben Yedder therefore avoids prison until at least October 15. On this date, the former Monaco captain will be judged on the merits of the case this time, that is to say for sexual assault while intoxicated, while he is still under judicial supervision and indicted for rape in the context of another case.
