Successful return: Gottéron gets off to a good start by beating Ajoie 4-1

Dominant, the Dragons had to wait until the 3rd period before taking the measure of Ajoie. Sprunger, De la Rose, Marchon and Sörensen scored.

Patience is the mother of virtue. Held for 50 minutes by Ajoie, who perhaps believed in a hold-up, Fribourg-Gottéron ended up converting its many opportunities to win 4-1 in St-Léonard in the resumption of the National League. The Dragons had already sent 14 shots on target on the opposing goal after a third, against only 2 for the visitors. Except that, like the post found by Wallmark in the 19th, the wind seemed not to want to turn in favor of the Fribourgeois who systematically came up against a Conz who was admittedly impeccable. Bertschy found the opening in the 2nd period during his team’s third power play? The referees were quick to cancel this success for an obstruction on Conz. The Dragons finally opened the scoring on the following penalty, by Sprunger’s stick. It was thought that the hardest part was over, but Palve equalized 19 seconds from the second siren on his team’s seventh shot on target. This is what is called in Finnish jargon a “Clim'”.

A reassuring powerplay

The Dragons did not let themselves get cold, however, unlike a large part of the canton’s population in this chilly month of September. De la Rose put his team back in front on the scoreboard following another Ajoulot penalty. This success did not officially take place on a powerplay (for two seconds) but was indeed the result of it. Of the six penalties awarded to the visitors, Fribourg therefore scored twice (including one disallowed goal) and initiated the action leading to the Swede’s success. Enough to give them confidence with an extra man on the ice after a Champions League campaign that was a failure at that level.

Marchon then scored the safety goal by deflecting a shot from Borgman and Sörensen, inevitably, joined in the fun by sealing the score in the empty net. In the end, the score is misleading given the physiognomy of the match but reflects well the number of chances that Pat Emond’s squad created (43 shots on target, 2 posts hit). On the other hand, we will have to wait for a tougher opposition to judge the level of the team because Ajoie is far from having made a strong impression. As we have already written, patience is the mother of virtue.
