Still remaining on the Reims bench last Saturday against ASSE, Gabriel Moscardo was authorized to respond to the call of the Brazilian U20 selection, which will prepare for the Copa America in its category starting this Tuesday.
His start in the Coupe de France against an R1 just before the holidays was encouraging and he even scored a nice goal (see below). But last Saturday, Gabriel Moscardo found his place on the Reims bench during Stade de Reims' 3-1 defeat at Saint-Étienne.
Even the injury during the match to defensive midfielder Amadou Koné did not allow the Brazilian to come into play, the Reims coach Luka Elsner having preferred to bring in the more offensive Teddy Teuma while the Reims were trailing 2-1 at this moment of the match and were looking to equalize.
Moscardo authorized to play Copa America U20
Summoned by Brazil for the Copa America U20, which will be played from January 23 to February 16 in Venezuela, Gabriel Moscardo still had to wait for the green light from his employer, PSG, and Stade de Reims, to whom he is loaned without purchase option, to participate in the competition, which Brazil will prepare from this Tuesday, January 7 in the country. And according to L'Equipe, Moscardo was authorized by PSG and Reims to honor his call-up to the national team despite the fact that the Champagne club currently has several injured players in its midfield.
Given his short playing time in Reims, this seems rather good news for PSG and Moscardo, even if he has never played for the Brazilian U20 team and is not certain of starting at the Copa America of its category. But the return to the country to prepare for the competition and the Copa America U20 itself should do good for the morale of the player, who experienced a complicated year 2024 with a foot operation in January, several months of rehabilitation, a move to Europe then new physical glitches and ultimately very little playing time over the past year (105 with Reims, 80 with Corinthians).
Where will the Brazilian play when he returns?
The Copa America U20 therefore comes at the right time for Moscardo, who will perhaps also take advantage of the competition to catch the eye of new clubs. PSG is not happy with his little playing time in Reims and has the possibility of breaking the loan to find him a new base for the second part of the season.
PSG and Reims were also supposed to make a decision on this subject at the beginning of January, but this decision has not yet been filtered. The fact that Moscardo is not available before mid-February (if Brazil completes the competition) could also have an influence on his winter transfer window and potentially push back some clubs.
