The war against the Decathlon brand continues. The PAZ association is targeting this time at the store located in Martigues, near Marseille.
The reason? The marketing of live crabs intended to be used as fishing bait, a practice deemed incompatible with respect for animal welfare.
Live crabs on the shelves
The conflict between the PAZ association (Projet Animaux Zoopolis) and the Decathlon brand continues around the marketing oflive bait for fishing.
Faced with the silence of general management, the association is now focusing its actions on every store individually, seeking to persuade them to remove these live animals from their shelves. After that of Aubagne, and Bouc-Bel-Air, it is the turn of the Martégal store to be in the viewfinder.
An original greeting card
To attract the store's attention, the association opted for a most original greeting card. Playing on the Decathlon slogan, “ Ready to play ?“, she transformed it into “ Ready to change », thus encouraging him to make good resolutions for the year 2025.
Crabs sold in summer
The association informs Marseille news that, due to lack of demand, crabs are not currently on sale, but their marketing is planned for this summer . In the meantime, the labels associated with these products remain visible on the shelves.
She insists that “crabs are sentient beings: in 2025, it is no longer acceptable to sell them to be tortured! We are therefore asking the store to commit to putting an end to this cruel trade this year,” we read in its press release.
Actions that bear fruit
Thanks to its many initiatives, such as petitions and targeted interventions in stores, the PAZ association is starting to see the results of its commitment. These efforts have already led to the cessation of the sale of live crabs in “ about twentyof stores” of the Decathlon brand.
The association hopes that this fight will result in aengagement clairfrom the Martigues store, aiming to permanently remove live crabs from its shelves.
