The 14,201 supporters present at Geoffroy-Guichard on Saturday (including 190 visitors) had the pleasure of witnessing a truly good football match between ASSE and Reims, with a success for the Horneland players ( 3-1).
Despite the euphoria of victory at the final whistle, the meeting between ASSE and Reims had a slight whiff of unfinished business. Worst attendance of the season, Geoffroy-Guichard was deprived of the Paret and Snella stands, sanctioned at the end of December by the LFP Disciplinary Commission for two matches behind closed doors. A sanction which follows the massive use of pyrotechnic devices during the match on the 13th day of Ligue 1 between ASSE and Marseille.
Yesterday, before the meeting, at the corner of the Paret stand from that of Henri-Point, along the old railway line, an unequivocal banner was deployed by the Saint-Etienne supporters, this one refers to the different sanctions suffered by the club for several weeks, namely the closed session of the Kops and the heavy suspension of Sissoko after his red card during the Coupe de France match against Marseille: “Two matches behind closed doors, seven for Sissoko… The only scale of sanctions is the club ultimately targeted. You are harming football more than our actions!”
A message which was echoed at the same time inside the stadium near the Reims visitors' parking lot. The 190 visitors from Champagne gave their support to the Ultras Saint-Etienne and sent a message to the LFP Disciplinary Commission: “No to collective sanctions, let’s reform the disciplinary committee.”
The Greens will reunite with all of their supporters for the 21st day of the championship, the weekend of February 9 for the reception of Rennes.
