Between mid-November and December, the town of Montfaucon-en-Velay experienced two waves of burglaries. “A first for the Mésanges subdivision, affecting three or four housing units,” says Mayor François-Régis Saby. Then a second, in the La Vigne and Jacquet subdivisions, involving eight houses. But no valuable items appear to have been taken. »
“They forced the bay window”
The thieves' modus operandi? “They forced the bay window and blew out a window,” says Alain, victim of an attempt filmed by his neighbor’s video surveillance. “They must have heard me coming home from work and running away,” he says. The same goes for Aimé who deplores the disappearance of some objects in his home. “Two or three odds and ends, gifts that I had received, but nothing precious,” says the sixty-year-old. When I got home, I didn't notice it right away. It was when I turned on the light and saw all the things knocked over that I understood what had happened. »
A different impact depending on the personalities
Fortunately, but this is not always the case for victims of such acts, Alain and Aimé were not traumatized by these thefts. “We just tend to say to ourselves afterwards: are you going to find him or not find him at home? » A neighbor, also burglarized, did not have the same reaction. He confesses: “Now I'm afraid they'll come back. Especially since I don't know where the investigation is. »
For his part, councilor François-Régis Saby confides that “the gendarmes mentioned the fact that these could be groups which did not come from here, but from Ardèche, Drôme or Loire. […] The advantage for them here is that there are multiple roads going in many directions.” Before adding: “Some people spoke to me about setting up “Vigilant Neighbors” or that there be more prevention so that these thefts can be avoided in the future.”
The victims all filed complaints.
