Club: Injuries, suspensions, etc., which PSG players have been the most absent in 2024?

Between injuries, suspensions, international competitions or the choices of Luis Enrique, the calendar year 2024 has been eventful for many PSG players. We have taken stock of the biggest absentees in for the year 2024 and, conversely, those the most reliable.

As the year 2024 draws to a close, the time has come to take stock and we have decided to look at the major Parisian absentees of the year which has just passed, taking into account only the players who are still at the club currently, without counting those who left last summer.

Whether due to injuries, suspensions, international competitions or the choice of Luis Enrique, no player participated in the 53 official matches played by the Parisian club in 2024. Some, however, were much more absent than others . And when a player was called for the match, but did not play, we did not consider it a missed match.

PSG's 53 matches in 2024 are divided as follows:

  • 1 Champions Trophy match
  • 33 Ligue 1 matches
  • 7 Coupe de matches
  • 12 Champions League matches

Out of these 53 matches, PSG's record is as follows:

  • 35 victories
  • 11 matches nuls
  • 7 defeats (1 in Ligue 1, 6 in C1)
  • 124 goals scored
  • 55 goals conceded

The big Parisian absentee of the year 2024 is world champion and known to everyone: Presnel Kimpembe. Victim of a ruptured right Achilles tendon in February 2023, “Presko” was operated on again at the start of the calendar year and has still not returned to competition since, therefore ending the year 2024 with zero matches in counter (called up against Bayern in November, he was not on the scoresheet).

PSG also had several serious injuries in 2024 including Lucas Hernandezvictim of a cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Dortmund last May. Of PSG's 53 matches in 2024, the left-handed defender missed 29, he who was also suspended last April against OL for accumulation of yellow cards.

Difficult recovery for Nuno Mendes

Another big absentee from PSG in 2024: Nuno Mendes. The Portuguese left-back returned last February from his major hamstring injury, which had kept him away from the field for 10 months, but has often been the victim of muscle problems since and has ultimately only played 30 matches out of 53 in 2024 with the club. The young Parisian defender has been absent from the group 21 times in 2024 and has also remained on the bench twice (against and this season).

I am compatriot Gonçalo Ramoswho was the victim of a nasty virus at the end of 2023, suffered a serious injury to his left ankle last August and missed a total of 15 PSG matches in 2024 due to this injury. In the second part of last season, the Portuguese striker also remained on the bench for 8 matches, but finally ends the year 2024 with 15 goals scored in 30 appearances in the Parisian jersey.

A year to forget for Skriniar

Started in the first part of last season before being injured against during the Champions Trophy on January 3, 2024, Milan Skriniar also played very little with PSG in 2024. This is due to his ankle injury, which caused him to miss 15 matches, then to his downgrading in the central hierarchy. Luis Enrique has left him three out of the group since the start of the season and has also left him on the bench 20 times in 2024. In total, the Slovak has only played 15 games out of 53 in 2024 with Paris.

It is therefore no surprise that the former Inter Milan captain is being pushed out this winter, just like Randal First Classwho did not have an injury in 2024, but lost his place to the point of not being called up by Luis Enrique for the last three matches of the 2024 calendar year. In total, the French international did not missed only 6 PSG matches in 2024, but only participated in 36 matches, with very few minutes overall and 11 matches where he remained on the bench from start to finish.

Hakimi and Lee there despite the international calendar

Other PSG players like Achraf Judge and Lee Kang-in missed several PSG matches due to their call-up to the national team for competitions which took place at the same time as those of PSG. The Moroccan right-back missed five matches at the start of 2024 due to his participation in the CAN and was also suspended against Barça in the Champions League quarter-final first leg last season. But the Moroccan is one of the most used players in Luis Enrique's squad for 2024 with only 9 missed matches in total.

Lee Kang-in has played all of PSG's matches since the start of the 2024/2025 season (23 in total), but missed seven at the start of the 2024 calendar year due to his participation in the Asian Cup with Korea South. He was also ill before the Champions League round of 16 first leg against Real Sociedad. In total, the left-handed attacking midfielder still played 44 matches out of 53 with PSG in 2024 (he remained on the bench against Dortmund in the C1 semi-final first leg), which is a very good total.

Reliable summer recruits

Between his recent facial injury against Monaco, some physical problems but above all the choices of Luis Enrique, Gianluigi Donnarumma only played 37 of PSG's 53 matches in 2024, proof that he is no longer indisputable number one in Paris. But of the 16 he didn't play, the Italian only really missed 9, usually finding himself on the bench but not out of the group when Matvey Safonov was preferred to him. The Russian has played 8 out of 23 matches since his arrival this summer and has only been out of the squad once due to a virus contracted at the end of August before the match in .

More generally, PSG can congratulate itself on the physical and disciplinary reliability of its four summer recruits since João Neves has not missed a PSG game this season and only sat on the bench once against , just before playing 90 minutes against Salzburg in the Champions League in a crucial match for the club's European future. Like Safonov, Willian On it and Desire Gifted have only been out of the Parisian group once since their arrival at the club this summer.

Zaire-Emery the machine

Finally, among the players rarely injured or suspended in 2024 and who play regularly under Luis Enrique, we find the inexhaustible Warren Zaire-Emerywho has only missed four PSG matches this year, one less than VitinhaBradley Stagger or Fabian Ruiz. Lucas Beraldo has only missed 3 matches since his arrival from São Paulo last winter, but has played little since the start of the season with only 11 appearances, including one minute in the Champions League.

Dismissed by Luis Enrique against Arsenal last October, Ousmane Dembele's remains an important player for the Spaniard and has only missed 7 PSG matches over the past year, which is very satisfactory given his injury history in recent years.
