This Monday evening, Stade Rennais formalized the arrival of Jorge Sampaoli as coach, following the sidelining of Julien Stéphan. Coach of OM during the 2021/22 season, the Argentine coach therefore returns to Ligue 1 and this Tuesday, his official presentation took place. The opportunity for the Argentinian technician to share his joy at returning to France, but also his ideas for trying to relaunch the Breton club. “I accepted because Stade Rennais is a big club. It's about developing a constructive project in a country that I know and love. The first objective will be to get to know the team, so that it is better organized, so that we can find an identity while strengthening the playing culture, the team must also regain confidence,” explained Sampaoli in front of the press.
Sampaoli regrets having been too demanding
Jorge Sampaoli whose last stint in France, at OM, left its mark. And asks in particular about his relationship with Steve Mandanda, downgraded in favor of Pau Lopez during his era. “I have a very good, frank direct relationship with Steve, he will help us get out of this pitfall,” assured the Argentinian technician. Before an unexpected mea culpa on the conditions of his departure, he who had slammed the door of OM in the summer of 2022, disappointed with Marseille's lack of ambition at the time. “I would say that my level of demands is becoming too ambitious or too strong in relation to the demands of the clubs, which is why I left. I realize that these ambitions are excessive and unattainable, I know that it is something that I probably have to change,” admitted Sampaoli.
