Victorious against FC Nantes on Sunday evening (1-2), Olympique de Marseille now finds itself second in Ligue 1 behind PSG. After the success at Beaujoire, Roberto De Zerbi reminded his supporters that his team was following a reconstruction process.
The victory of Olympique de Marseille against FC Nantes on Sunday evening (1-2) did not make us forget the defeat against Paris Saint-Germain last week (0-3), but it has the merit of bringing back OM in the ranking. Because thanks to these three additional points, the Phocéens have regained second place in Ligue 1 ahead of AS Monaco on goal difference.
A reassuring success for the Phocaeans who had only one victory over the last four days (against Montpellier, 0-5 at La Mosson).
At a post-match press conference on Sunday at La Beaujoire, Roberto De Zerbi reminded Marseille supporters that OM was entering a new project. “We must not forget that we are trying to build something new. Last year, we finished 8th in the standings. We lowered players' salaries by €20 million. It's not perfect yet, it affects us. The defeat against PSG was very tough. But either we decide to build, or we stop at one match.”
“Not yet at the level I expect”
– R. De Zerbi after FC Nantes – OM
If the results of Olympique de Marseille remain satisfactory after 10 days (20 points taken out of 30 possible), the Italian coach does not hide his ambition with the Marseille club.
“We must and we can improve. We are not yet at the level of play that I expect. I want to address the people of Marseille: my team is made up of good people, who have human values. Construction , it takes time.”
OM's next meeting, the reception of AJ Auxerre on Friday before the international break in October.
