The Senate's information mission on the intervention of investment funds in French professional , launched in March 2024 two years after the arrival of CVC Capital Partners with a 13% stake in the Football League's commercial company professional, revealed the conclusions of its investigation this Wednesday. The senator from Isère Michel Savin, rapporteur of the text, points out numerous failings and issues a series of 35 recommendations.

Michel Savin, after six months of investigation, what assessment do you draw from the arrival of the CVC investment fund in French football?

CVC funds represented a real lifeline for certain French clubs in great financial difficulty after Mediapro and the cessation of the championship during Covid. Two years later, back to square one. We are very concerned about the financial and economic situation of several clubs. They risk going out of business or being taken over by investment funds which come only to carry out financial operations.

How many clubs are in the red in Ligue 1?

At least a third. We did not have the figures from the National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG) but the share of rights represents for certain clubs 40 to 60% of the budget. I fear that many will be in difficult financial situations.
