Pepe, who has been FC Porto’s captain in recent years and is a former national team player, will be honoured today, ahead of the clash between Portugal and Croatia, where a minute’s silence will also be observed in honour of Adolfo Calisto, who was also part of the national team.

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) announced today, on its official website, that Pepe, the player with the third highest number of international caps for the Portuguese national team, with a total of 141, will be accompanied by the president of the FPF, Fernando Gomes, when he enters the field at the Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon.

The 41-year-old former centre-back, who was named national team ambassador on Wednesday, ended his international career at Euro 2024, where Portugal were knocked out by France in the quarter-finals, having made 141 appearances for the national team, a number only surpassed by Cristiano Ronaldo (212) and João Moutinho (146).

Today’s game, which will kick off at 19:45, marks the start of the Nations League (Group A1) and will also serve to remember Adolfo Calisto, who wore the national team jersey on 15 occasions and who passed away this week at the age of 80.
