In the middle of the school year, a mother gives birth in her daughter’s school

“He is the youngest schoolboy in France.” On Monday, September 2, the first day of the school year, the school in the commune of Saint-Grégoire, a commune located a few kilometers from Rennes in Ille-et-Vilaine, was the scene of a happy event.

“The baby’s arrival is imminent”

As reported by Ouest-France, Pauline, whose pregnancy was due to end on September 9, gave birth in the very school where she had just dropped off her other daughter, Jùlia, who had just joined her new classroom.

According to the regional daily, it was around 7:45 in the morning that the mother’s waters broke. “I didn’t think labour was really starting. I thought we had time to drop our daughter Jùlia off at school, which is on the way to the maternity ward, very close by,” she said.

But, as his partner Coralie recounts, events will follow one another. “The school doors were closed when we arrived, at 8:27 a.m. […] We are waiting to be able to leave our daughter with her teachers, but these are the separations on the first day of school, it takes a little time.”

“There, I see Pauline who moves a little to one side and I notice, on her face, this expression which says that the arrival of the baby is imminent,” she still remembers.

A birth in a few minutes

Immediately, the emergency services were notified, and Pauline was isolated in a school locker room. While waiting for help to arrive, towels were brought by the staff of the nearby nursery. Finally, the delivery took place in a very short time and the baby, named Luiz, arrived in the world in very good health before the emergency services arrived.

“A teacher took a photo at 8:40 a.m. (…) I think it took him maybe six or seven minutes to come into the world,” Coralie rejoices, still speaking to Ouest-France.

Finally, the emergency services arrive and take the mother and her baby, who are in very good health, to the maternity ward. On the way, she meets many parents who have stayed in the playground for the occasion and introduces them to the newborn.

“They were there, in the courtyard! I sat down and told them they could come closer to see it,” Pauline recalls. “We had such a powerful moment. It was magical,” concludes Coralie.
