On Netflix, movies come and go. And, faced with the ocean of content that the platform offers you, we have decided to be your beacon in the night. To find you the rough and rare diamonds, the needles in the haystacks. So allow us to recommend a little gem of absolutely cute and touching animation, released on the platform Saturday, September 14, 2024, and to watch urgently!

Dumped by his wife, cloistered in an Airbnb in the outskirts of the sprawling city of Los Angeles, Dean tries to take stock of his life and his trajectories. A documentary filmmaker, he sets up his camera everywhere in the apartment until he comes across a little guy and his grandmother who, more or less, are squatting in his rental. Except that, plot twist, these two occupants are shells… who talk… and who wear shoes! Not common, you will agree. Dean, who does not seem to be bothered in the least by the absurdity of the situation, befriends the shell-kid named Marcel, and decides to make him the star of his documentary. A shell’s journey from YouTube to the Oscars

The project Marcel the shell (with his shoes) began in 2010. Director Camp Dean Fleischer and co-writer Jenny Slate (who also voices the eponymous character) had already made a web series with the same anthropomorphic shell character. Broadcast on YouTube, it had enjoyed some success and even made it to the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.
