After many twists and turns, the succession of the famous couturier finally seems to be complete! The heirs are known and the sums at stake are very high.

In the summer of 2024, more than five years after his death, Karl Lagerfeld’s heirs are said to have finally reached an agreement regarding his estate. The designer’s immense fortune should therefore very soon be distributed among his legatees.

According to information from Glitz.paris (a media site on the luxury industry), while they had been in conflict with the French tax authorities for more than four years, the eight heirs of the former artistic director of Chanel have stopped contesting the tax penalties pending in the case. The latter was particularly complex because of the various financial schemes carried out by Karl Lagerfeld’s former accountant.

A hard worker and a shrewd manager, the famous couturier with the ponytail has accumulated a fortune estimated at more than 200 million euros before taxes and invested, in particular, in real estate in Paris, Monaco and many other places.

Having no children, he had chosen, upon his death, to bequeath his assets to eight people. The first of these heirs is the Corsican model Baptiste Giabiconi. This friend would receive 30% of the total. Next comes Sébastien Jondeau, also a model and bodyguard from 1999 to 2019. The next ones are the American Brad Koenig, also a model, Virginie Viard, artistic director at Chanel and Sophie de Langlade, collection director of the Karl Lagerfeld brand. Caroline Lebar, the vice-president of the same entity is the sixth on this list that looks like a national lottery. As for the seventh, it is the English actress and writer Amanda Harlech.

But who is the eighth heiress? Her name is Françoise Caçotte. Unknown to the general public, she is the governess of Choupette, Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved cat. French and German law prohibits bequeathing one’s property to an animal, so Lagerfeld chose to bequeath Choupette to Françoise. The latter also received a house and a generous annuity that allow her and Choupette to live comfortably. In exchange, Françoise reads her stories every day, notes her meal times and needs. And she manages her Instagram account which has 264,000 followers.
