Between a still vacant Prime Minister’s post, the announcement by Bercy of a probable worsening of the deficit and a tight budgetary calendar, the situation of public finances is becoming more and more worrying. And the parliamentary debate promises to be heated.
The four boxes were filled to the brim with hundreds of sheets of paper, with the name of their recipient taped to the top. They no longer contain reams of paper, as they were previously used for, but notes from the general management of Bercy, ministerial documents, and other reports from general inspections. Couriers transported two of them from Bercy to the National Assembly, one for the chairman of the Finance Committee, the rebellious Eric Coquerel, the other for the general rapporteur of the budget, the Liot Charles de Courson. Two others were delivered to the Senate, for their counterparts, the socialist Claude Raynal and the LR Jean-François Husson. Everything arrived early Monday evening at the Palais-Bourbon and the Luxembourg Palace. In each box, a letter co-signed by the two resigning ministers, the one for the Economy and Finance for the past seven years Bruno Le Maire and the one in charge of Public Accounts Thomas Cazenave. They summarize the situation of public finances and insist on this approach “in complete transparency” which aims to enable the work of the two chambers on the next budget to be launched. The sending was sometimes, as for Eric Coquerel, doubled by an appeal from Bruno Le Maire.
