Dakar Autonomous Port: “Hundreds” of expired contracts have not been renewed

XALIMANEWS-As soon as he took office last May as Director General of the National Company of the Autonomous Port of Dakar (Pad), Waly Diouf Bodian initiated “a readjustment of the workforce”. This approach, recalls Les Échos, had already led to “a first wave of layoffs”.

According to the same source, new departures followed. “Around a hundred workers were dismissed at the end of 2024”, reports the newspaper, specifying that “most of these dismissed agents hoped for a permanent contract, after several years of service”.

Questioned on this subject, Abdou Karim Diarra, member of the Pad’s communications unit, rejected “the term dismissal”. In comments collected by the daily, he wanted to clarify: “These are workers whose contracts have expired. If you remember, there was a first wave of departures just after his arrival. He cannot let a first wave go and keep those who are in this situation for the same reasons. »

Abdou Karim Diarra also underlined that “recruitments took place between the two waves of departures”, mentioning in particular the hiring of 169 new agents last November. “It was within the framework of the agreement between the former General Management (Mountaga Sy) and the Port unions. […] At the moment when the [nouveau] Dg has launched the physical audit of the staff, he cannot approve the extension of these contracts. Once the audit is complete, [Bodian] will find solutions to this situation,” he added.
