The free motorcycle registration campaign began this Monday, January 6, 2025 and will end on March 13, 2025. No exemptions will be granted, warned the Minister of Infrastructure, Land and Air Transport (MITTA), Yankhoba Diémé.

The three-month deadline was set to give users, particularly young people, the time necessary to enlist and register their motorcycles, the minister explained on RTS. The latter launched an appeal to all two-wheel owners: “Let no one expect an exemption, because we are used in Senegal to taking measures thinking that there will always be an exemption. We have given enough time. The absence of exemption aims to make users responsible. »

Stressing the importance of this free registration initiative, the minister stressed that it is based on two security motivations.

First, a need for security because “There is the fact that snatching has become commonplace in Dakar and this is one of the government’s priorities to secure each citizen during their travel. » Then, a need for road safety “because 2-wheel drivers need to be protected and it is a widely used source of employment for young people. So, they should fully enjoy it while respecting the traffic rules. »

However, some users believe that the three-month period is insufficient and are calling for an extension of the enrollment period.
