The interim Taliban government in Afghanistan has confirmed that it has successfully tested a guided rocket system in Kabul. This test, which took place on Saturday, was announced by Enayatullah Khowarazmi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense.
The Milan Konkursi system (9M135), designed to target armored tanks, warships and low-flying helicopters, was tested at the capital’s artillery headquarters. A specific group of soldiers was trained in its use, according to Khowarazmi.
The announcement was published on the website of our Anadolu colleagues, where Khowarazmi declared that “this guided rocket was activated for the first time in the country”, without providing further details on the development of this technology by the Taliban.
Since their return to power in August 2021, following the withdrawal of American forces, the Taliban have worked to rehabilitate their military arsenal. In particular, they indicated having repaired 70 planes and helicopters which had been damaged before the departure of American troops.
According to information relayed by CNN, the United States has left military equipment worth $7 billion in Afghanistan over the past 16 years. The Taliban took possession of this equipment after the fall of Kabul.
However, there are reports that many planes and vehicles were previously damaged by US forces before their final departure on August 31, 2021.
