The Company for the Development and Promotion of Coasts and Tourist Zones of Senegal (Sapco), in collaboration with local stakeholders and partners, organized a cleaning and awareness day in Pointe-Sarene. This initiative is part of a global approach aimed at promoting sustainable tourism and strengthening the attractiveness of this emerging seaside resort.
According to Serigne Mamadou Mboup, Director General of Sapco, the main objective of this day was to make the beach and the village of Pointe-Sarene clean and welcoming. “The environment is at the heart of Sapco’s objectives. We have mobilized our resources, including modern beach screeners, to ensure a clean coastline that meets international standards. These are the latest generation machines that we have and which will contribute to making the Senegalese coastline and Senegalese beaches clean and welcoming,” underlined the Director General of Sapco.

This mobilization saw the active participation of village associations and local businesses.

Riu’s Human Resources Director, Ramatoulaye Mbacké, reiterated their company’s commitment to sustainability through its Proudly Committed initiative. “At Riu we know that sustainability is not a fad, but a necessity. We work to integrate this vision into all our actions, with particular emphasis on reducing CO2 emissions, protecting biodiversity and raising awareness among local communities. It is in this sense that we have created a sustainability committee made up of professionals from different sectors of the company, in order to guarantee that this commitment is not limited to words, but that it translates into measurable actions. Proudly Committed represents our commitment to communities and the environment. We want to make a positive contribution to the communities where we work. By 2026, we aim to ensure that each destination where we are present benefits from a concrete project that makes a difference, focusing on our main priority, health and childhood,” she said. declared.

During this day, Sapco, which has an area of 110 ha dedicated to hotels and tourism development, invited national and international investors to realize their projects in the Pointe-Sarene resort. “The infrastructure is ready, and we encourage project leaders to come and contribute to job creation and the economic development of the region,” said Mr. Mboup.

The seaside resort of Pointe Séréne, although still in development, is already starting to generate a significant impact. The example of the Riu Hotel, which has invested in environmentally friendly infrastructure, such as solar panels generating 400 kWc, illustrates the potential of this region for sustainable and profitable tourism.

Thus, by integrating sustainability at the heart of their operations, Sapco and its partners intend to make Pointe-Sarene a model of responsible tourism development. Initiatives such as this clean-up day demonstrate that with everyone’s involvement, it is possible to reconcile economic development and environmental preservation.

The challenge remains to maintain this momentum, ensuring that each project contributes to a more sustainable future for Senegal and its communities.
