The Regional Stock Exchange (BRVM) ended the year 2024 on a positive note with a notable increase of 28.89% in its composite index, one of the best performances recorded over the last ten years, informs the institution in a press release received this Tuesday by APA.

Despite a global economic context marked by prolonged disruptions, particularly due to the Covid-19 pandemic and efforts to combat inflation, the BRVM has demonstrated growing resilience and attractiveness for investors, she welcomes. .

The capitalization of the stock market reached a historic record, going from 7,966.96 billion CFA Francs at the end of 2023 to 10,078.68 billion CFA Francs in 2024, an increase of 26.51%.

At the same time, the capitalization of the bond market increased by 2.23%, reflecting the increased role of the BRVM in the long-term financing of the WAEMU economies.

This dynamic was accompanied by a 16.19% increase in the value of transactions compared to the previous year, confirming strong investor activity on the secondary market.

Continuous modernization

As part of its innovation strategy, the BRVM plans to launch the BRVM Composite Total Return index in 2025. This will include dividends in the calculation of performance, thus offering a more complete vision of the profitability of listed companies.

In addition, the revision of the sector classification and the creation of new indices aim to improve the readability of performances by sector, thus facilitating strategic analyzes for investors.

The BRVM consolidates its place as the fifth African stock exchange, behind Johannesburg, Casablanca, Lagos and Cairo. With an IPO completed in 2024 and another already launched, it continues to position itself as a key player in the regional financial market.

The year 2025 looks promising with major projects such as the development of derivatives and raw materials markets, as well as the launch of new innovative products.
