The former Head of State, Macky Sall, has decided to suspend his political functions within the Alliance for the Republic (APR) for an indefinite period.
This information was confirmed by Macky Sall himself in an interview given to ConfidentielDakar magazine. From now on, he will occupy the position of honorary president of the party, while being freed from daily responsibilities. Although he is not completely leaving the political sphere, former President Macky Sall has chosen to devote himself more to his international commitments, according to comments relayed by DakarActu.

A congress planned for the beginning of 2025 will formalize this major transition within the former ruling party. In the meantime, Macky Sall recently brought together a select committee to consider the establishment of a permanent secretariat responsible for coordinating the activities of the APR. This secretariat will also have to appoint a personality capable of leading the party in his absence, a delicate task given the divergent ambitions of influential members.
Although this change was mentioned during the extraordinary congress of December 2023, it marks an important step in the internal restructuring of the APR, redefining its mode of operation in the post-Macky Sall era.
