On Saturday, a system entered the province through the western gates. Road conditions were difficult and the freezing rain had not yet said its last word. However, another system will take over just after. Forecasts.
Frozen Saturday
On Saturday morning, freezing drizzle settled in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Outaouais regions, making road conditions difficult at times. The system continues its course eastward and could generate icy conditions along its path, particularly in regions along the St. Lawrence River by Sunday morning, but lose intensity.
Accidents and leaving the road
Around 4:37 p.m., an accident occurred in Saint-Hyacinthe: Route 235 was closed between Petit rang Saint-André and Chemin de la Grande-Ligne in both directions. The reasons for the accident are still unknown, but freezing drizzle was present and conditions are still difficult in places. Still in Montérégie: one lane out of two was closed around 5 p.m. on Highway 40 near Rivière Viviry, westbound in Saint-Lazare due to a road exit.
Around 7:35 p.m., an accident forced the closure of one lane out of three on Highway 20 at Chemin du Fer-à-Cheval heading EAST, in Boucherville.
It will be difficult again on Sunday
On Sunday, another system will enter from southern Quebec and, along with a spectacular rise in temperatures, a lot of rain is on the menu. By Monday evening, up to 50 mm could accumulate in places in the St. Lawrence Valley, particularly in the Capitale-Nationale and Mauricie regions. The white carpet will be put to the test.
However, the ice would not have said its last word for the northern and eastern sectors of the province: during the night from Sunday to Monday, Bas-Saint-Laurent, Gaspésie and the North Shore could suffer the disadvantages of freezing rain. Moreover, the Côte-Nord region could receive up to 5 mm in total.
