Dalin comes back hard on Richomme, the speed has reduced

Charlie Dalin has caught up with the leader, Yoann Richomme.

Yoann Richomme and Charlie Dalin were in a tight spot but in a zone of weak winds which caused them to considerably reduce their speed over the last 24 hours, according to the latest Vendée Globe score published Thursday at 7:00 p.m. While he was still some 120 nautical miles from Richomme (Paprec Arkéa) on Wednesday evening, Dalin (Macif Santé Prévoyance) returned to 19 miles from his rival a little over 6,100 miles from the finish of this round of the sailing world.

But their average speed has reduced over the same period of time and stands at less than 10 knots due to their entry into an anticyclonic zone after passing Cape Horn and they must sail upwind. Sébastien Simon (Groupe Dubreuil), third sailor to have now entered the South Atlantic, is 599 miles behind the leader and also displays an average speed of less than 10 knots.

Thomas Ruyant (Vulnerable), who should be the next to round Cape Horn on Friday, is still moving at an average speed over the last 24 hours of 20 knots but 1,328 miles from Richomme. Further down the rankings, Swiss sailor Justine Mettraux (Teamwork-Team Snef) took 9th place at the expense of Briton Sam Goodchild (Vulnerable), whom she is now 2.5 miles ahead of.

The 36th and last navigator of this solo round-the-world trip, the Belgian Denis van Weynbergh (D'Ieteren Group), left the Indian Ocean passing Cape Leeuwin, and is currently in the Tasman Sea, more than 7,000 nautical miles from the leader.
