Hikers came across human bones while walking in Laragne-Monteglin (Hautes-Alpes). These human remains must still be analyzed.
Walkers made a macabre discovery this Sunday, December 29, in the town of Laragne-Montéglin (Hautes-Alpes): human bones were in fact discovered by hikers. An investigation was opened to try to identify these remains. La Dépêche du Midi returns in several points to this discovery.
What is it about?
The discovery took place about forty kilometers from the town of Gap (Hautes-Alpes), in the town of Laragne-Montéglin, in an isolated mountain area.
Several walkers came across a rather long skull and bone, in the middle of muddy ground. According to the first elements of the investigation, it could be a femur or a bone belonging to an arm. According to our colleagues at BFMTVa piece of fabric was also discovered near these human remains. The latter could belong to a piece of clothing.
How will the investigation take place?
An investigation was opened: this was entrusted to the Gap gendarmerie company as well as to the investigation cell of the IRCGN (Criminal Research Institute of the Gendarmerie, editor's note). Police officers and criminal identification technicians (TIC) were also sent to the site. The bones will now be the subject of analyzes for dating and research for DNA traces, indicated Gap prosecutor Marion Lozac'hmeur.
A link with a disappearance?
According to the prosecution, it is not yet possible to know whether it is a man or a woman, nor to know the exact age of the deceased. Investigators are working to delve into the list of names of people missing in the region: “There have been disappearances in the area, but the lack of dating prevents us from making a link with them to date” , commented the prosecutor. Crews have combed the area in recent days, with no results.
