Overbooked Christmas party: Swiss delays its employees from the summer party

Overbooking is not just a problem for plane reservations at Swiss. The practice also extends to his Christmas party! And not at the expense of passengers, but of its own employees.

What are we talking about? Swiss employees have been invited to the internal Christmas party which will take place at the beginning of December, in the huge hall of Stage One in Zurich Oerlikon. But those who didn’t sign up immediately received an email telling them they were placed on the waiting list. Reason: the capacity of the place is not enough to accommodate everyone!

The employees are disgusted. “I no longer want to come to this party,” comments Fritz E. to “Blick”. He was accepted, unlike many colleagues. “It’s a slap in the face after the hard work put in by both newcomers and long-time collaborators,” he adds.

On the Swiss side, we confirm that a waiting list is used for the Christmas evening “as well as for certain other events”. In fact, the company organizes two staff parties per year, one in December and another in summer. And those who are delayed in winter have priority at the summer party.

“We try to ensure that everyone can participate. It’s a logistical challenge,” defends Swiss. Which does not specify how many employees will be left behind in December. Note that the party takes place on a site which can accommodate 300 to 2200 people depending on its configuration. Which is clearly not enough. Unlucky employees will just have to wait for the summer party. There is no guarantee, however, that they will indeed have a place.
