François Ruffin in an unfavorable ballot against the RN after the first round of legislative elections in the Somme

He was one of the first to call for the union of the left and the creation of a new “popular front” on the evening of the European elections; a wish that was heard. The very media-friendly “insoumis” deputy of the 1^re constituency of the Somme, François Ruffin, obtained 36% of the votes cast, Sunday June 30, during the first round of the legislative elections, he announced on TF1. He is ahead of the candidate of the National Rally (RN), Nathalie Ribeiro-Billet, who obtained 40% of the votes, and whom he will face in the second round.

There are a good number of moderate centre-left voters who will say to themselves that a humanist face like the one I have been presenting for seven years now is better. (…) rather than the face of division and hatred presented by the National Rally. »

The former journalist, MP since 2017, was re-elected in 2022 with 61% of the vote, facing the same rival. But he is faced with the ever-increasing push of the RN in his constituency, while the far-right party obtained a score of 44% in the European elections. In a position of rupture within La France insoumise (LFI) and with Jean-Luc Mélenchon, he also faces on the ground the rejection of the figure of the “rebellious” leader by the voters.
