Another French victory this Sunday in the second stage of the Tour de France. After Bardet this Saturday, it was Vauquelin who won in Bologna, alone, after spending the day at the front. Remco Evenepoel pulled away in the final descent to close the few seconds that separated him from the Pogacar-Vingegaard duo. He is currently second in the general classification, in the same second as his direct competitors.

Kévin Vauquelin (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) won the 2nd stage of the Tour de France on Sunday. The Frenchman won solo after 199.2 km between Cesenatico and Bologna. Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) took the yellow jersey to the detriment of Frenchman Romain Bardet (dsm-firmenich PostNL). Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step), arrived at the same time as Pogacar, climbs to second place overall.

A member of the 11-rider morning breakaway, Vauquelin set off alone on the second passage of the Côte de San Luca with 13 km to go. The 23-year-old Frenchman held on until the finish. He won his fifth career victory, and his second of the season after the Etoile de Bessèges time trial.

Arriving at 2:21, Pogacar takes the yellow jersey. Evenepoel, second, Vingegaard, third, and Carapaz, fourth, are within the same second.

The 3rd stage, Monday, will also take place in Italy, between Plaisance and Turin, over 230.8 km. The profile, practically flat, with three 4th category hills, could give rise to a first massive sprint.
