This edition is punctuated by several highlights, notably the exhibition “After feminicide” by the artist Eve-Anne HKS. The latter went to meet the relatives of women killed because they were women: mothers, daughters and sisters among others. “The objective of this work was twofold: to give them a voice when they are rarely invited to do so, but also to visualize the dynamics behind feminicides”explained the artist. The exhibition is presented in a series of photos and texts, the result of meticulous documentary work.
Like every year, the Ruban banc campaign will also give rise to a large gathering organized on November 25, the international day against violence against women. The moment will be an opportunity to “pay back” to the victims of femicide. They will thus be made visible in public spaces by pairs of red shoes, symbols of these absent lives.
“Women will speak to talk about the victims or to talk about their own experience of violence”added Charlotte Belayew, facilitator at PAC Charleroi. The latter also worked with two groups of women on the theme of violence. They will be present at the gathering and will present the work resulting from their discussions.
A conference is also on the program for this new edition. Femicide will be addressed under the triple historical, political and media dimension.
According to the Stop Féminicides blog, which lists feminicides through their media coverage, at least 21 women were killed because of their gender this year. For its previous edition, the White Ribbon campaign denounced rape culture.
