Mourad Tsimpou, the young piano prodigy from Marseille, died at just 19 years old, leaving behind an unfinished symphony of talent and passion.
Originally from the northern districts of Marseille, Mourad had been battling a rare liver disease since childhood, a battle he finally lost this Saturday morning at the Necker children’s hospital in Paris.
Under his stage name, Mourad, he had won over many music lovers. Salim Lebghil, one of the directors of 1392 Records, announced with deep sadness that the young pianist had passed away after a long illness.
By chance during a hospital stay
The young Marseillais had discovered his passion for music by a happy coincidence during a stay at the Marseille hospital of La Timone. Although he had never touched a piano before, he was seized by an impromptu by Chopin heard on the Internet and immediately began to improvise, revealing his perfect pitch and his musical genius.
