Be careful this Saturday evening in Alsace. Météo France places the two Alsatian departments on orange thunderstorm alert this Saturday from 4 p.m. Forecasters mention a risk of very violent, even extreme storms from 5 p.m. in southern Alsace to go up until 1 a.m. towards northern Alsace, mainly affecting the west of the two departments. The Alsace plain and the east could be spared, but forecasters are not sure at the moment.

Hailstones up to 8 cm

We expect a lot of wind, gusts around 120 km/h, or even more in places. There is also a risk of heavy rainfall, from 30 to 70 mm, the equivalent of more than a month of rain expected in one hour. This phenomenon will be accompanied by hail, hailstones which could locally be up to 8 cm“, explains Loïc Alter of the Météo Suivi Alsace association. Hail is especially expected along the Rhine.

Given the risk of hail, the city of Haguenau has decided to open its covered** Houblons and Thurot car parks free of charge, overnight from Saturday to Sunday, to allow users without a garage to park their vehicle there.

Strasbourg town hall has decided to close its parks and cemeteries from 5 p.m.

Circulation of most TERs interrupted from 7 p.m.

Faced with the risk of storms, all TER trains are canceled in the Grand Est from 7 p.m. In Alsace, only the Strasbourg – Basel and Mulhouse Belfort lines are spared.
